What makes a good family?

Being in a good family creates an endless bond that is built with loyalty, uniqueness and love.

A good family supports each other through the bad and good times in their lives. They support your
decisions you make in life and guide you through the hardest times. They stand up for you when bullied
and keep their word. They can be annoying sometimes but they are the people that help you when you
need something.

A good family respects each other and cherishes all the laughs and smiles they have together. A good
family has their ups and downs but they have unconditional love for each other. No family is perfect .
Every family has their unique things that make them a family.

Every loyal family will have challenges but they will always stand together as a family. They love you
when no one else does. Your family sees the real you when no one else can. Families give the best
advice and know what is best for you. A good family inspires you to be better and to do better, they
motivate you to keep going when things are hard.

My family is great and I wouldn’t change anything about them.

The treasure box -Burning pages are everywhere!

People are dead . Fire is everywhere. Our homes are ruined. Burning pages are everywhere.
I can hear screaming and loud footsteps.

The villagers were scared and the children were crying. People were running away. We don’t know why
someone would do this. This inexcusable tragedy has caused anxiety and depression to everyone.
Books were being destroyed. Except for one, a book that my father had not returned to the library. This
book now became a treasure. Our clothes and belongings were ruined by the fires that were started. We
came to a realization that we could not stop them, we all decided to head for the village not far away.

We started going and took the things that we had saved from the fire. We all gathered together when we
slept so we could stay warm. We all slept on pathways, behind bushes
and in the woods.  We saw some other villagers who were leaving and  gathered together so we would all
be together.

Some people became very ill from inhaling the smoke from the fires earlier and later on passed away.
My father was one of them. The night before he died he told me to keep his treasure safe. I held his hand
throughout the night watching him as he fades away. I am not sad as I know that he is in a better place.
He was a great person and father. He always worked hard to provide.  After we buried him near a tree,
people had very nice things to say about him. I was confused about what happened. We said our last
goodbyes and kept going in case the bombers come to find us.

We had to keep going. I had to leave my luggage behind in order to take my fathers treasure.
We had one last stop at a big linden tree, we were really exhausted. My legs were aching. I decided to
bury the treasure there as it would be safe and when I am older I can return it to the library.

Time went by and I  was getting older. I kept thinking about the treasure that I had buried. I went looking f
or the linden tree and I finally found it. There was a girl playing around it.  It still looked very big and old. I
started digging until I found it. The little girl asked what it was, I said it was a book about our people. She
asked if she could read it, I gave it to her. She read a few pages. She liked it, she said how mysterious
and cool it was. She had a little trouble with the words. Her dad came to get her and her looked familiar.
We greeted each other, then it finally hit me. That little girl was my best friend’s daughter, My best friend
and I had lost touch and hadn’t contacted each other in years.  We conversed for an hour about what we
had been doing for the past years. He is a builder now.

I went back on the road to return the book to the library and to see what the village looks like after all these
years. It looked different, everything looked new. The library looks good. Looking back at some places
brings me back to all the good and bad memories I had as a child.

Returning the book was the difficult but a relief that I will no longer have to look at the book and remember
the piece of my past I want to leave behind. I am going to explore more of the village and see if I can
remember any more memories.

The treasure box- My father is sick & Burial day

My father is sick
My father us really sick. I can see it in his  movements that he is getting weaker
and weaker. His skin is going pale. I stay awake scared of losing him. As his
head goes colder I hold his hand tight knowing he is slipping away.

Burial day

Tears rush out  as I see my father wrapped in a thin cloth getting ready to be
buried in the dirt. Everything they said about my father warmed my heart . I look
down and come to the realization that I am not alone, I am left in the good hands
of our friends and neighbors. I hold the book very tight and tear up as I say my
last goodbyes to my precious Father.

Public or Private?

I want to go sailing again!

On the 1st of May, Wednesday, the Seniors of St Patrick's school went sailing at Okahu bay. Many thanks to the Lion Foundation, Rotary, Volvo and Zhik for sponsoring that fun day and to our sailing instructors Steve, Justin and JR for teaching us how to control the boat and how to put the boat together and also for keeping us safe when we Capsized.

The first thing we learned was how to put the pieces of our boat together. We needed a lot of parts for the boat to function. My partner was Roneeza. When we got into the boat it was kind of scary but then we had fun splashing the water at other people. Then we noticed how far we were from shore. We followed the "mother duck" which was Steve. He made us turn a lot but it was really fun. People started capsizing  but I
was a little scared to capsize. The boats were fast but it depends on how loose we held the rope that was attached to the sail.

I kept on getting hit by the boom. But there was foam outside of the boom to protect our heads.
When people capsized the instructors would hurry fast with their speed boats to help them back up. It was a struggle to get back in the boat. As fast as it was lunch came around, We ate our lunch and took some pictures for our blogs. Then we went for our second round and I didn't have a partner because Iliana couldn't get on because it would tip. So I got dragged out to sea by the speed boat and it was fun but the it wasn't level because there was much weight on the other side of the boat. It was really fun. Then Iliana tried to hop in my boat then it sank and we capsized. I tried to touch the floor but it was too deep. I was freaked out but my life jacket kept me floating.  I started to worry because my life jacket was loose but the instructor tightened it up for me. Then I swam to my boat but then i fell back out so the instructor told me to hop into his boat. We rid on the speed boat it was really fun!

He dropped us off at shore and went back to get the others. We got the equipment  they needed to take their boats back. Then we went and swam for a bit and it was really relaxing because the life jacket was holding me up.  But then we all went and showered and got ready so we can go.
We thanked the instructors and they gave us certificates for our participation then left on our bus.

The Goldilocks Zone

The Goldilocks zone is a way for Astrobiologists to say if a planet is too hot or too cold to support life.
I learnt this by reading school journal May 2017- Level 4

My Opinion of J.A

These are my opinions from her Internationals Women's day speech 2019 and her first speech in Wellington parliament after Christchurch disaster on the 15/3/19.

I think she's very responsible and respectful because she chose that the shooter will be nameless because New Zealand will not tolerate these kinds of events.

This is why we wash our hand!

We wash our hands so all the bacteria is gone. Washing hands with soap removes more bacteria
than just washing with water. It  prevents infections in cuts and wounds on your hands. It is good
for your hygiene.

If we don't wash our hands we can get sicknesses and diseases. We can get germs from others if
we don't wash our hands. The bacteria on our hands can get into food and can not only get you
sick but others too. Washing your hands stops germs from spreading to others.

You can transfer bacteria to you eyes and mouth. All the bacteria can make you vomit, have
diarrhea, sneeze and cough.

If you don’t wash your hands you can spread bacteria to yourself and those around you.

L.I: I am learning how to write an explanation.

New Zealand was different back then!

Do you know what De-extinction mean?

Going, Going and gone-SLJ- (4 points)

New Zealand is very beautiful. It has a lot of beautiful native birds, plants and trees. Sometimes the weather is a little bit unquestionable but most of the time  the weather is very beautiful. New Zealand has a lot of activities and places to visit.

Living on the edge- SLJ- (4 points)

Dear Mum,
In Tundra it was very cold and there was hardly anything there. There were no trees or any plant of sort but mountains. We did all sorts of outside activities like climbing mountains and Etc.

Towering Timber- SLJ- (4 points)

I  agree that logging should be allowed.

Reasons why they should log is:

  • It makes houses for people to live in.
  • It makes furniture such as bed frames, chairs and etc.
  • Its good material for fires.
