Pancakes and maple syrup- SLJ- (4 points)

My favorite food is seafood and you can't really make it so I'll choose my other favorite food which is fries.

The recipe:

  1. You cut the potato, you can also peel the skin if you want too.
  2. Soak the cut potato slices in one large bowl with cold water.
  3. Then drain the potato slice and pat it dry. After that you leave it their to air-dry.
  4. Put 2 inches of oil in a large pot to 325F and fry them in batches.
  5. Then drain and cool down the half done fries for 30 minutes.
  6. Bring the oil up to 350-375F and fry til golden.
  7. Drain the oil out of the fries
  8. Then eat the fries.

The three pros of people working at DOC rangers:
  • They get to help animals
  • Some people get to live their dreams of working with animals
  • They get to see some of the rarest animals.

The three cons of people working at DOC rangers:
  • The animals might attack you.
  • You don't get to see your family because you have to stay in that island.
  • You can't loose your keys or access to the animals.

Fantastic beasts- SLJ- (4 points)

My beast is called hairy hammer. The reason of his name is because when people try to threaten him
he will use his super speed to run and then use his strength to punch him as harder than a hammer.

Weird and wonderful- SLJ- (10 points)

On your blog, tell us how to solve this maths problem. You can write your answer in words, use a Sketchpad image, or post a video explaining how you would figure it out. Be sure to give us your final answer in millilitres (ml).

The answer to 3 x 365:
1095

300 x 3 = 900
60 x 3 = 180
3 x 5 = 15

900 + 180= 1080
1080 + 15 = 1095

Many of the plants and trees in New Zealand are native because you can not find it anywhere else in the
world but New Zealand.

I would like to visit the biggest Kauri tree in all New Zealand because it would be an honor to see the
Lord of the Forest. I would also like to find out the story behind the tree and who planted the tree.

Did you know that Maui was the one who formed New Zealand? - Summer learning Journey

According to Maori mythology, Maui pulled up most of Aotearoa with his fish hook made out of his Grandmother jaw.
He had pulled up North Island thinking it was a fish and till this day the North Island is called ‘Te ika a
Maui’ or Maui’s fish. The South Island is called ‘Te Waka a Maui’ or Maui’s canoe.

Aotearoa means the land of the long white cloud. Aotearoa is one of the three countries in the world that
has that has two national anthems of equal standings. The first one is ‘God save the queen’ and the
second one is ‘God defend New Zealand’.

A Tongan Christmas!

Every Christmas there is singing at church. Christmas for Tongans is very spiritual and
active all about the food and family.

The holiday season starts on November 4 which is Tonga's national holiday and ends
January 1. Christmas Day in Tonga is a singing and dancing celebration. All the villages
would have a singing competition and friends and family would get together and exchange
food with each other to show their unity and love for one another. Gift giving in Tonga is a
little different; woman usually prepare tapa cloths or mats called ngatu and give it to their
brothers and then the brothers would prepare a tokonaki or raw food like meats to give to
their sisters.Christmas food in Tonga is Roasted pig, ufi, sweet potato (kumala), taro, taro
leaves, corned beef, coconut milk, and all sorts of fish and seafood.Tongans decorate their
trees with balloons, and candy. A fun activity during Christmas time for the kids and adults
too is called fana pitu. Fana pitu is translated as the shooting bamboo. Girls can’t wear
short things because it is rude and disrespectful to their brothers.

Milk Magic

Milk Magic - Fulila

Materials:
Milk
Different coloured food colouring
A container
Dish soap
eyedropper

Method:
  1. Pour milk into container
  2. Drop food colouring in different spots
  3. Put some dish soap into the container of milk
  4. Then observe what happens

How it works:
The milk that has a blue cap has fat in it and the dish soap kills the fat in the milk which causes the milk
to move around with the colours.

Hypothesis:
Fulila: I think that the milk will react to the dish soap which will cause the colours to move create a
beautiful colour.

Help them

At a school called Layman Intermediate, all girls hated boys and all boys hated girls.
But there was a new girl that didn’t care about the drama, her name was Kate . She just minded her own
business.

Everyday after morning tea a little boy would get bullied by a girl named Mandy.

It was a beautiful day and Kate was feeling very confident. After Morning tea when the little “boy was
being bullied by Mandy, and Kate didn’t want to hide back anymore she was more than angry.
She shouted at Mandy and said “ Would you like it if someone did that to you? I don't think so I would like
it if you didn’t do that to him! Now Shoo!” (Mandy ran away)
Kate helped up the little boy and asked him, “What’s your name”?
“My name is Billie.” he said shly, Why are you being so  nice to me?”
” it was just the right thing to do, replied Kate.
thank you said Billie as he left.

When Kate went to the bathroom she could hear someone crying. When she entered the stall and
saw Mandy crying.
Kate asked Mandy “what happened”
and Mandy said “there was older boys trying to punch Me! and the girls bathroom was the nearest exit”.
Kate said “don’t listen to them and just ignore them”.
Kate asked Mandy “would you like to  come and hang out with me “
and Mandy said “I would really like that”.
Off they went talking and learning about each other.

Astria Game

A student in another school has recently blogged that:

“Students don’t learn much playing this game called Astria – Countdown to Impact: Their time could be better spent doing other things”.

I partly agree,
I think playing this game is a good way of working together with a partner. It also gives you a little survey in the beginning to see if you agree, disagree or partly agree.  But it is just like other games.

The game is about a asteroid about to hit planet Astria. It only gives the Astrian scientist and the alpha leader to decide one solution out of three solutions.

What a funny Duffy Assembly!

Purpose: Share what happened at the Duffy Assembly

On the 11th of September my school and I went to the St Patrick's hall for a Duffy assembly.

When the door was opened, we walked up the stairs and sat on the floor in the order of classes

This assembly was one where a Duffy Hero comes to visit to inspire us to become strong readers. Our duffy heros name was Henry. After introducing himself, he told us a story of when he was a kid and how he wanted to become an actor.

He said that when he was little his mum would take him shopping but,  she would sometimes meet with a friend and they would stop and talk for hours and hours. On one of these occasions, he wandered into a library and found a book which he thought was a dvd.
He opened it and to his surprise, there was nothing inside it!

He approached the  librarian and said, “Excuse me, but um there’s something  wrong with this DVD - there’s nothing inside it!”
“That’s because it’s not a DVD its a book!” said the librarian, who then began to read it to him. After that he read all the time.

A few years later he was reading in the library when he could hear this loud annoying voice that sounded like a cat crying. So he got up followed the voice, and finally he found the annoying voice. He tapped her on the shoulder, ready to shout, and she turned around with her long luscious brown hair, pink juju lips and her brown eyes.
The girl said “what!” and
Henry said “um?”.
He asked the girl “how are you doing?”
then she said “ew no!”. He walked away sad  that he didn’t even get her name.

One year later he was reading again in the same library and there it was again, the same loud annoying voice that sounded like a crying cat. This time he was very annoyed by it. He followed up the voice, getting ready to get mad and there she was the girl with the luscious brown hair, pink juju lips and the brown eyes. This time he said “hey! Your not supposed to be shouting in the library!”
And she said “oh Hi!” but he just walked away.

After that he went to the library every Thursday. After all the reading he had done he decided he wanted to pursue a career of an actor.

I Disagree! Pest Have to Go!

The task we did independently after some discussion was based around the idea that other groups including the
Department of Conversation are planning to take action that will see NZ predator free by 2050.

Today I participated in an online discussion based around how I felt about the view of a group of people
known as the Nature Watchers who believe that the ‘animals that are called ‘pests’ by the Predator Free
Groups should be treated with more respect.
I was to agree, disagree, or express my ideas based around the information provided and supporting
information I found.

I disagree with the Nature Watchers.
We should be trying to get rid of pests because it will not be healthy for the other wildlife animals to be
living where they can be killed by a pest.
It is a real problem that birds are losing their young and their eggs. If all the pests get birds eggs we will
have less birds.
This is not just taking effect on the birds but other wildlife animals.  If we take all the pests away we won’t
have the risk of losing our native birds.
If we got rid of all pests we may be able to save our native birds because these pests are killing our native
birds and other animals.
It is major problem because if we don't stop these pests our native birds will be endangered.

They also think that Feral cats are pests.
Feral cats are hunting down birds, lizards and other wildlife animals.
I don’t feel that cats should be harmed but I think that the animals that are getting attacked should be put in
a sanctuary where they can be free but also have food to eat.
Dr. Jamie Steer believes that we should keep our wildlife animals in a sanctuary so they would not get attacked for
example Rangitoto Island is a great sanctuary for New Zealand wildlife animals.
The Government Group Predator free is calling all New Zealanders to help get rid of all pests.

You can have a Pilgrimage to Jerusalem!

Pilgrim- A word that describes a person who goes on a journey to a holy place for religious reasons.

Many people go on a pilgrimage to imagine that they are there when the event happened. People
go on a pilgrimage to  learn more about the place.

  • A place that people can have a pilgrimage to is Jerusalem because it was where Jesus lived, you
can also learn about the things Jesus did there.
  • Another place where people can have a pilgrimage to is Mount Calvary because it is a way of
connecting to Jesus and you can imagine that you were there when Jesus was crucified.

Too quick!

Today at morning tea time, as soon as the bell rang I went outside to my friends.
My friends and I went to the back of the school where the garden of vegetables
is and we just sat down on the wooden bench and talked.

My friends decided to stay at the garden to do some more weeding, I decided to
walk to the senior park,to play tag with my other classmates.  I slid through the
mud and almost slipped. I was very glad I didn’t fall on the ground because
my clothes would have got very dirty.

When I was at the park, people were running and throwing the ball at each
other because they were playing ball tag. I joined in the game because it looked
like so much fun.   People were smiling and laughing as they ran from the
tagger. At this time the tagger was Iliana.

Iliana tried to get me but I was too quick.  She tried reaching out to grab me onto
my sweatshirt, but still didn’t get me.  Unfortunately, I paused briefly as I was
out of breath and that is when she finally tagged me.  That short break gave
me enough energy to reach her and tag her back and I once again ran as fast
as could, so I would not get tagged again.

The bell for the end of morning break echoed in my ears, it all of a sudden
seemed to get louder.  Everyone went crazy to try and tag someone before
racing to class to touch the number eight on the class door.  I was so glad I
didn’t get tagged last, as that would have meant I would be the tagger for lunch
time.

L.I- I am learning to use descriptive language to give detail about my story of
my morning tea.
