What a funny Duffy Assembly!

Purpose: Share what happened at the Duffy Assembly

On the 11th of September my school and I went to the St Patrick's hall for a Duffy assembly.

When the door was opened, we walked up the stairs and sat on the floor in the order of classes

This assembly was one where a Duffy Hero comes to visit to inspire us to become strong readers. Our duffy heros name was Henry. After introducing himself, he told us a story of when he was a kid and how he wanted to become an actor.

He said that when he was little his mum would take him shopping but,  she would sometimes meet with a friend and they would stop and talk for hours and hours. On one of these occasions, he wandered into a library and found a book which he thought was a dvd.
He opened it and to his surprise, there was nothing inside it!

He approached the  librarian and said, “Excuse me, but um there’s something  wrong with this DVD - there’s nothing inside it!”
“That’s because it’s not a DVD its a book!” said the librarian, who then began to read it to him. After that he read all the time.

A few years later he was reading in the library when he could hear this loud annoying voice that sounded like a cat crying. So he got up followed the voice, and finally he found the annoying voice. He tapped her on the shoulder, ready to shout, and she turned around with her long luscious brown hair, pink juju lips and her brown eyes.
The girl said “what!” and
Henry said “um?”.
He asked the girl “how are you doing?”
then she said “ew no!”. He walked away sad  that he didn’t even get her name.

One year later he was reading again in the same library and there it was again, the same loud annoying voice that sounded like a crying cat. This time he was very annoyed by it. He followed up the voice, getting ready to get mad and there she was the girl with the luscious brown hair, pink juju lips and the brown eyes. This time he said “hey! Your not supposed to be shouting in the library!”
And she said “oh Hi!” but he just walked away.

After that he went to the library every Thursday. After all the reading he had done he decided he wanted to pursue a career of an actor.

Sacraments of Initiation, Commitment and healing

I Disagree! Pest Have to Go!

The task we did independently after some discussion was based around the idea that other groups including the
Department of Conversation are planning to take action that will see NZ predator free by 2050.

Today I participated in an online discussion based around how I felt about the view of a group of people
known as the Nature Watchers who believe that the ‘animals that are called ‘pests’ by the Predator Free
Groups should be treated with more respect.
I was to agree, disagree, or express my ideas based around the information provided and supporting
information I found.

I disagree with the Nature Watchers.
We should be trying to get rid of pests because it will not be healthy for the other wildlife animals to be
living where they can be killed by a pest.
It is a real problem that birds are losing their young and their eggs. If all the pests get birds eggs we will
have less birds.
This is not just taking effect on the birds but other wildlife animals.  If we take all the pests away we won’t
have the risk of losing our native birds.
If we got rid of all pests we may be able to save our native birds because these pests are killing our native
birds and other animals.
It is major problem because if we don't stop these pests our native birds will be endangered.

They also think that Feral cats are pests.
Feral cats are hunting down birds, lizards and other wildlife animals.
I don’t feel that cats should be harmed but I think that the animals that are getting attacked should be put in
a sanctuary where they can be free but also have food to eat.
Dr. Jamie Steer believes that we should keep our wildlife animals in a sanctuary so they would not get attacked for
example Rangitoto Island is a great sanctuary for New Zealand wildlife animals.
The Government Group Predator free is calling all New Zealanders to help get rid of all pests.
