You can have a Pilgrimage to Jerusalem!

Pilgrim- A word that describes a person who goes on a journey to a holy place for religious reasons.

Many people go on a pilgrimage to imagine that they are there when the event happened. People
go on a pilgrimage to  learn more about the place.

  • A place that people can have a pilgrimage to is Jerusalem because it was where Jesus lived, you
can also learn about the things Jesus did there.
  • Another place where people can have a pilgrimage to is Mount Calvary because it is a way of
connecting to Jesus and you can imagine that you were there when Jesus was crucified.

Too quick!

Today at morning tea time, as soon as the bell rang I went outside to my friends.
My friends and I went to the back of the school where the garden of vegetables
is and we just sat down on the wooden bench and talked.

My friends decided to stay at the garden to do some more weeding, I decided to
walk to the senior park,to play tag with my other classmates.  I slid through the
mud and almost slipped. I was very glad I didn’t fall on the ground because
my clothes would have got very dirty.

When I was at the park, people were running and throwing the ball at each
other because they were playing ball tag. I joined in the game because it looked
like so much fun.   People were smiling and laughing as they ran from the
tagger. At this time the tagger was Iliana.

Iliana tried to get me but I was too quick.  She tried reaching out to grab me onto
my sweatshirt, but still didn’t get me.  Unfortunately, I paused briefly as I was
out of breath and that is when she finally tagged me.  That short break gave
me enough energy to reach her and tag her back and I once again ran as fast
as could, so I would not get tagged again.

The bell for the end of morning break echoed in my ears, it all of a sudden
seemed to get louder.  Everyone went crazy to try and tag someone before
racing to class to touch the number eight on the class door.  I was so glad I
didn’t get tagged last, as that would have meant I would be the tagger for lunch
time.

L.I- I am learning to use descriptive language to give detail about my story of
my morning tea.

I wish I could be in hard materials class again!

Today at Technicraft  the year sevens went to the Hard materials
class, our teacher was Mr Nair.

Our first instruction was to select a picture of a character from
the computer to trace using carbon paper to transfer the image
onto wood. My character was a robot.

Following this, I used the burner to burn the lines I had traced
onto the wood. It took a while to burn it. When I finally finished
burning, I went ahead and painted my picture with dark colours.
Next I began shaping the wood with sandpaper, then when I was
finished Mr Nair sprayed my project with a polisher.

At the end of tech we cleaned up the classroom and headed to
bus. I was very proud of what I made, I learned heaps of skills
that I could use in the future.

WOW! That was a really big and red Blood Moon

Kiwi Kids News

As part of our independent reading programme we use Kiwikidsnews to learn about news in New Zealand
(national news) and around the world (international news).
We are learning how to:  Read closely to analyse an article and to think critically about the messages
within them.

In your own words describe what happened in this news article:
On Saturday morning it was the largest lunars eclipse. The sun's brightness reflected onto the moon's surface.

Find out where this took place and include some information about the place:
This took place on the moon.

Tell us when this event happened and explain what might happen in the future?
This happened on the 28th of July at 5.15, The moon might get even bigger than usual.

Explain in your own words why this event took place:
IT happened due to the blue light from the earth's atmosphere and also by the red and orange brightness
from the sun.

Use the dictionary to find the meaning of three words from the article:
Dimmer- A device for varying the brightness of an electric light.
Partial-existing only in part
Refracting- (of water, air, or glass) make (a ray of light) change the direction when it enters at an angles.
